Istanbul
Considering the recent events in Istanbul and the group actions against the reconstruction policies of the government, there seems to be a strong, emergent mutiny in order to acquire the public space of the city, as well as, the free expression within it with social and political implications. The opposition of the citizens to the destruction of the park Gezi, the substitution of the park with building a shopping mall, but also the courageous resistance to the unprecedented police brutality, highlights a historic moment. It is now urgent to shift and redefine the relationship between citizens and state, in order to have freedom of expression and democratic participation to the developmental processes for the city.
The public space of the city of Istanbul, the government interventions and of course the recent protests, have spatial and architectural extensions and they highlight deeper political, social and economic issues.
In this effort to energize students, architects and citizens, we invite you all to attend this petition in order to express our support and sympathy.
