TVNZ has released a current affairs report on the behaviour of Dunedin University students outlining a biased view on their drinking and social behaviours.
The report is an unwarranted attack on the students of Dunedin, making them out to be out of control drunkards.
The report states that "University isn't just about learning, it's about socialising, partying. But when that gets out of control...”
The lack of research, balance and biased reportage is an outrage. There is no evidence in this report to suggest that behaviour has worsened in recent times.
TVNZ needs to apologise for portraying students in a negative manner, reporting only the negative part of the student culture, and including interviews that encourage people NOT to come to Dunedin to study.
Let’s use this opportunity to point out all the positive contributions students make to society, here in Dunedin and across the country. You can use the comments section to say what is great about studying at Otago.
