The Egyptian President al-Sisi: Freedom for the poet Fatima Naoot

The freedom of expression, as a fundamental democratic right, is at significant risk in Egypt. The Cairo poet Fatima Naoot was sentenced to three years in prison for a private Facebook post. In it she spoke against the ritual slaughter of animals, which is - in her opinion - an act of violence against animals. Her Facebook post in October 2014 was not meant as a blasphemy.

We support the acquittal of the Egyptian poet, journalist and architect Fatima Naoot, that has gone in appeal, and we demand the right to freedom of expression, even in Egypt.
