The Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Alexis Tsipras: #ProvideRelief_StayTransparent!

The wildfires in the East Attica region of Greece on July 23-24 resulted in more than 90 deaths, as well as numerous injuries. One of the reasons why this happened is the high levels of corruption of both the public and private sectors in the country (urban planning etc.). Individuals, public benefit foundations, international governments and intergovernmental organisation supported the survivors by donating millions of euros to various public and private institutions involved in the relief (affected municipalities, Hellenic Red Cross, Greek government, Doctors of the World Greece etc.). I urge the Greek government and all the public and private institutions responding to the crisis to get transparent and share with the public the amounts gathered, as well as where all this money is going. If we want to prevent this from happening again, we have to tackle corruption first. Let's change that today, so we can be safe tomorrow.

Καλώ την ελληνική κυβέρνηση και όλους τους δημόσιους και ιδιωτικούς φορείς που δραστηριοποιούνται στην ανακούφιση των ανθρώπων που επλήγησαν από τις πυρκαγιές στην Αττική την προηγούμη εβδομάδα να διαχειριστούν τις ιδιωτικές / κυβερνητικές / διακυβερνητικές δωρέες που έλαβαν με διαφάνεια. Ένας βασικός λόγος που μας βρίσκουν απροετοίμαστο σα λαό τέτοια συμβάντα είναι η διαφθορά. Ας την πολεμήσουμε σήμερα, ώστε να είμαστε ασφαλείς αύριο.
