Lebanon deserves Peace:
Endorse Amel Association International's Nomination for the Nobel Prize

Initially predicted to be a short lived crisis, the Syrian disastrous situation has now been going on for five years. 1.5 million Syrian refugees have been received by Lebanon thus making up more than 35% of the total population in the country. Although the consequences are dreadful, the Lebanese citizens continues to demonstrate fraternity and solidarity.

Based on a non-sectarian approach, Amel Association International (Amel) represents the Lebanese committed citizens as a whole without distinction and is actively working alongside communities towards alleviating the dramatic humanitarian disaster. Deeply rooted in a profound commitment to social justice and comprehensive dignity, Amel is devoted to building an environment conducive to establish peace in a war-torn region and advocates for a citizen-driven and committed action as the only long-term legitimate and sustainable response to both violence and terror.

Amel is a non-sectarian Lebanese NGO created in 1979 by its dedicated founder, Doctor Kamel Mohanna, as an urgent local and field-based response to the intolerable repercussions of the civil war, which broke out in 1975 in Lebanon.
Through its 24 medical centers and 6 mobile medical units throughout Lebanon, Amel continues to provide indispensable services to the most vulnerable populations, such as the marginalized Lebanese, Palestinian and Syrian refugees. With the provision of more than 1 million services to Syrian refugees while pursuing its support of all other populations in Lebanon affected by the Syrian crisis since April 2012, the NGO plays a key-role in the local and operational response. Putting its beneficiaries as a first priority, Amel continues its work in despite of Daesh’s attacks on its center in Ersal (North Lebanon) thus taking part in fighting terrorism on a broader level.

Through positive thinking and permanent optimism, Amel’s approach and actions represent a strong catalyzer for solidarity, fraternity and social change. Honoring Amel Association International with the Nobel Peace Prize would be a strong message of support and a distinguishing way to honor the efforts of a whole population to build peace in a war-torn region that more than ever needs international backing to achieve stability.
