Universal Basic Income
Introduction of a Universal, Individual, Unconditional Basic Income (UBI) could ensure an existence in dignity for each of us.
Above all the UBI is meant to abolish poverty and grant more freedom to each individual, to determine his or her own lives, and strengthen the participation of all in society.
The Unconditional Basic Income does not replace the welfare state but transforms it from a compensatory state into an emancipatory state.
Universal: In principle, every person, irrespective of age, descent, place of residence, and profession will and should receive money.
High enough: The amount should enable a way of life equating to a modest standard of living, meeting the social and cultural standards of the country concerned. It should prevent material poverty and provide the opportunity to participate in society.
Individual: Every woman, every man, and every child has an individual right to a basic income. This right shall not be based on circumstances of income or property, or on the status of family membership or cohabitation. This is the only way of ensuring that control over individuals is minimised and freedom for individual decisions is guaranteed.
Unconditional: We regard the basic income as a right of the citizen, which shall not depend on any preconditions, including any obligation to work, perform activities in ‘the public interest’, behave according to ‘correct’ gender roles or be limited by any constraints on income or property.
