Weymouth & Portland Borough Council: Allow pedalling on the seafront (i.e. cycling)

Weymouth & Portland Borough Council
Someone somewhere has confused pedalling (cycling) with peddling (hawking, street selling) and the result is that the cycling community of Weymouth & Portland (and all of the healthy cycling tourists we welcome) are banned from riding their bikes on the seafront, year round, 24 hours a day by an ancient and misread bye law!
In these times of obesity epidemic, NHS deficits, climate change and booming cycling popularity is it clever or appropriate to threaten small children and responsible cyclists with expensive punitive legal action at the public's expense? And over something as silly as a semantic cock-up!
If you think a sensible solution allowing both cyclists and pedestrians to co-exist in a safe way can be explored and found, such as exists in Bournemouth and most other seaside towns in the UK, as well as canals, then please sign this petition and share it with your supportive friends and colleagues.
Together we can successfully read a dictionary and sort this out!
