Pfizer Price Gouging needs to end!

Price gouging is when prices of medicines/products are skyrocketed to a very high level in times of emergency or pandemics like the current one with coronavirus. One such example is Pfizer, which has increased prices by more than 9% on over 40 pharmaceutical products for the year 2020 and has increased the prices of their epilepsy drugs by 2600%. We have noticed Pfizer because, even though there are other huge pharmaceutical companies in the market, Pfizer is the biggest one and the impact its monopoly has is also huge.

We know that price gouging is not acceptable. We have a list of demands that we require Pfizer to listen to us or they risk losing the reputation that they have built up all these years.

1. We first demand an apology letter from Pfizer to the public stating how they can see that price gouging is unacceptable.

2. The second thing we demand is that there is complete transparency about how much the medicine costs when it is made and how much it is being sold for compared to the market in which it is being sold. We also want a comparison between the current prices to know that there has been a decrease.

3. The last thing we demand is that Pfizer offer discounts on future medicinal purchases to the people and their families who have previously been affected by the price gouging.

They need to understand their main mission as a pharmaceutical company which is to provide good medicines for the welfare of people. The change has to come in such a way that they think about the people being affected in the price gouging and not about their shareholders and their profit.

For us, this campaign matters a lot because through this entire global pandemic we have seen how people’s lives have been affected and how people were struggling to find medications at the right price. We thought of the elderly people who had no family besides them in this tough time and had to go through a worse time because they could not afford medicines. We thought of all the people who lost jobs and were not able to afford medications. And we finally thought of all the lives that could have been saved if not for a corporate company’s greed. Being such a huge company with so many resources Pfizer can actually be of benefit to many especially because of their vaccine production. They are an industry leader and are in a good light right now because of the vaccine, we hope that they can stay in a positive light by stopping price gouging and doing the right thing.
