Bring Gaza Home
No more exile,
solution for Gaza
Palestinians in Gaza have been living over 400 days of genocide. Gaza has been turned into such a death trap that even if Israeli bombing were to stop tomorrow, the numbers of the dead would continue to rise drastically for years. Masses are experiencing stage five famine, have already died from dehydration, starvation and disease, and cannot wait for slow aid. Simply trucking in more food would not stem mass death. Without clean water, sanitation and sewage treatment, without functioning hospitals and without an environment decontaminated from Israeli bombs, people will continue to die from diseases, chronic illnesses, and pollution.
Israel and its supporters have used such concerns to push forward “solutions” which involve the mass expulsion and dispossession of the Palestinian population in Gaza. Are there solutions now when Gaza has been not only made unlivable, but also impossible for immediate humanitarian aid?
Over 75% (in some estimations 85%) of the people in Gaza are refugees from historic Palestine. Many have their homes in walking distance. In December 1948, a year after the Nakba began, the United Nations General Assembly passed Resolution 194, which guaranteed the right to return for Palestinians expelled from their homes by Israeli forces. In fact Israel’s admission as a member state into the UN in 1949 was conditional on the implementation of Resolution 194, the return of the refugees, which it never fulfilled. Now, it is time to correct this mistake. But how to return?
There are instructions. The UN 'Pinheiro principles', give guidance on how to implement housing and property restitution for returning refugees. But is this really possible? Dr. Salman Abu-Sitta and the Palestine Land Society have researched, calculated, and prepared a very feasible and practical plan (Return Plan 20223) for return with statistics and maps, based on legality. There is space inside Israel’s borders, there is infrastructure and everything needed to sustain life. Now is the time for legality, humanity, and justice. Now is the time for the refugees in Gaza to return. More information https://bringgazahome.com/
The proper planning for the cleaning and rebuilding of Gaza- for and with its original inhabitants, the 25% of the population and whoever wants to stay in Gaza- is already happening. It will take many years, the refugees cannot wait.
We can make this happen.
