Thank you for supporting the campaign.

To raise awareness about the memorial and to petition we have attended many events.

We organised media coverage. From The Falmouth Anchor, Cornwall’s Online Student Newspaper to BBC News. From SourceFM to BBC Radio Cornwall and BBC Spotlight TV. Watch out for Cornwall Live and ITV News.

Oh yeah, and we produced a pamphlet with a taste of the history that we’ve been giving out whilst on the road.
Special thanks to Irene at Rubicund who designed the pamphlet. Thanks also go to Rubicund Bookshop & Coffee, the Fish Factory, Jam Records, Cornish Bank and others for helping us to distribute these and gathering petitions.

With our online petition we are nearing 100, and the paper petition we have over 400.
In our discussions the message has come back that we should not lose the history. The memorial has no place in the Church!

This memorial is to Thomas Corker (1669-1700) who was a slave trader in west Africa for the Royal Africa Company. On his return to Falmouth in 1700 he brought back slaves.

We should condemn, not memorialise the slave traders of England’s past.

We want King Charles the Martyr Church in Falmouth to do the right thing and remove the memorial to Thomas Corker from its premises.

The presence of this memorial in the Church conflicts with the Christian values of belonging, inclusion, integrity and respect as the Church of England states.
