Achieving freedom of speech at the UvA

The UvA board abolished free speech at the university. The houserules state that "Expressions of cultural, political, and/or religious nature, as well as those with commercial purposes, and the organization of activities and/or the dissemination of written or oral information with the aforementioned purposes, such as putting up posters, distributing flyers, placing magazines, or setting up stands, are not allowed."

We think that political discussions are at the core of education. Learning to think critically about societal issues is one of the most important skills for our society. The University of Amsterdam's ban on political expressions within the university goes against everything a university should stand for! That's why ASVA calls on everyone to sign the petition against the new house rules!
