EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides, the EU Member States und Municipalities
A quarter of all EU children are at risk of poverty or social exclusion. Hunger is preventing our children from learning and leading healthy, happy lives and we must ensure that no child in the EU is left behind - especially as skyrocketing inflation is making the situation worse.

Right now the EU Commission is working on a new School Food Scheme and ‘Farm to Fork’ strategy. We demand that this includes the right for every child - in every EU school - to a healthy, sustainably produced school lunch and that all pupils are taught about what constitutes a balanced diet. The financing can be adapted at national or local level.

Starting children off with good meals and food education is incredibly important: EU child obesity rates are rising alarmingly and - at the same time - poverty is increasing. Food at school can make up more than 50% of daily food intake for many EU children yet not all schools are required to serve a school lunch at all.

No child should have to sit in school on an empty stomach or be forced to live on junk food and instead, taxpayers money should be spent on healthy school food for public health.

Please demand action now.

To EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides , and the EU Member States responsible for the implementation of the EU Farm to Fork strategy:

"We urge you to enforce healthy school meals and food education for every child in every EU school, as the minimum standard for the EU Farm to Fork strategy and for the enforcement of the European Child Guarantee. Every child has the right to a balanced diet for a healthy development and to be able to concentrate in class. Healthy school meals are beneficial for both people and planet. Paired with food education, school children can learn to eat and cook healthily - while using food responsibly."

Small plate, big impact!
