Indian Government, World Leaders, UN General Secretary
We are demanding that the Indian Government release Yasin Malik immediately as a matter of urgency, acknowledge his human rights and save his life. The United Nations must act to ensure that he has hospital treatment, is released from incarceration and has protection. They must save his life. No human being should have to suffer in this way.
We further demand that all political prisoners, some who have been on jail for years merely for speaking for their rights, are also released, given protection and their freedom.
Why is this important?
Yasin Malik is the Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front. He is a symbol of resistance and a democratic voice for the Kashmiris. He welcomed a non violent struggle in exchange for the opportunity granted to him, by the Indian Government, to be allowed to participate in the political realms of seeking a resolution for the Kashmir conflict. He spoke at the India Today Conclave in March 2008 under the title of 'Leadership for the 21st Century" in New Delhi. He showed a complete understanding of the Kashmir conflict and the issues that plague peace. He was involved in political activism and diplomatic work at home and abroad. However on the 7th March 2019 he was booked under PSA and sent to Tihar jail in New Delhi. He still resides there and is not being given suitable representation. He is in poor health suffering from chronic heart condition, kidney stones and face paralysis. This is of grave concern, furthermore at such times during the corona virua crisis his life is even more seriously at risk.He has a wife and a seven year old daughter who are being deprived of a husband and father. The Kashmiris are being deprived of a democratic voice that seeks resolutions to a conflict that has lasted more than 70 years. We are mindful that Yasin Malik is just one political prisoner so would urge for the release of all political prisoners suffering cruelty under the Modi brutal BJP government.Yasin Malik will appear in court on 3rd and 4th March for his hearing and there is strong likelihood that he will face a death sentence. The charges against him are politically motivated and a clear policy of the Modi government to silence Yasin Malik as he is the most charasmatic and important political advocate of the freedom struggle.
