Subject: Petition to Transfer and Compete
The NCAA is a prestigious organization with hundreds of thousands of members. The division I level usually holding the top athletes and institutions in the organization.
The NCAA rule handbook states on page 8 the ‘ Ethical Behavior of Coaches and Student-Athletes ’. “ COACHES HAVE THE INHERENT OBLIGATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES TO THE PROFESSION, TO THE STUDENT-ATHLETES etc…” “ COACHES ARE EXPECTED TO BE ROLE MODELS AND TO CONDUCT THEMSELVES WITH INTEGRITY AND HIGH ETHICAL STANDARDS AT ALL TIMES”.
I am disappointed to say this is not the case at the current NCAA institution I represent. The head coach is disrespectful to his staff and swimmers, creating a suffocating toxic environment on the team. His absence at practice, snarky comments, and indifference towards swimmers creates humiliating standards for an NCAA division I team. Collegiate swimming is where I thought my student-athlete career would thrive, not where my dreams and drive would go to fade away.
As a result of the toxic culture, my mental health has suffered. I have the chance of competing and being at the top of the country at other schools where my student athlete career can thrive and being forced to sit out a year would strip me of that opportunity. I love swimming way too much to give up my dreams of continuing to compete at a high level.
Thank you for your time and interest,
