Justice for Yu Menglong (Alan Yu): Demand Truth and Accountability

We are deeply grieved and outraged by the “mysterious death” of artist Alan Yu (Yu Menglong) in September 2025. As more and more video and audio materials emerge—including a recording strongly suspected to be “Alan Yu’s heart-wrenching screams during abuse”—we have reasonable grounds to suspect that this may not have been a natural death, but rather a cruel and premeditated killing.
Alan Yu was allegedly “deprived of his freedom, beaten, and forcibly made to consume alcohol and drugs, ultimately leading to his death.” If proven true, this would not merely be the tragic loss of an artist, but a grave violation of human rights and public safety.
However, Chinese police still refuse to open a formal investigation. On September 21, they attempted to brush the matter aside with a “Clean Internet Notice” that explicitly stated it was not the result of a formal investigation. The notice not only failed to disclose any details about the “mysterious death of Yu Menglong,” but also did not respond to widespread public doubts. It simply concluded that “criminal involvement has been ruled out” and that the cause was an “accidental fall to his death after drinking.”
In addition, China has strongly suppressed any discussion of the incident. Keywords such as “Yu Menglong” and “YML” have become sensitive terms, and discussions of the case have been massively censored across online platforms in the country. Netizens who speak out for Yu Menglong may even face “compulsory measures.” This level of speech control, “comparable to June Fourth,” has further deepened public skepticism toward the “official conclusion.”
Justice will not come on its own—it requires our collective effort. We cannot allow this case to be covered up or ignored.
We call upon Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International to pay close attention to issues of artists’ right to life, personal freedom, and the prevention of sexual violence, and to exert pressure on the relevant authorities to improve the situation..
We demand:
1. A formal case and a thorough, independent, and transparent investigation to deliver justice for Yu Menglong.
2. Prosecution of all perpetrators under the most serious charges.
3. Public apology and legal/psychological support for his family.
We, the undersigned, represent society’s call for human rights and justice. We urge all who care about fairness, dignity, and safe working conditions for artists to sign and share this petition. Together, let us secure justice for Yu Menglong.

然而，中國警方至今仍不願立案調查，９月２１日僅以一份「並非立案調查結果」的「淨網通報」試圖搪塞。該通報對於「于朦朧離奇身亡事件」非但未公開任何細節，更未回應社會各界質疑，僅以「排除刑案嫌疑」與「酒後意外墜樓身亡」作為結論。 此外，中國對此強力進行噤聲，「于朦朧」、「YML」等關鍵字變成敏感詞條，相關案件討論在該國各網路平台遭受大規模刪除，為于朦朧發聲的網友甚至可能面臨「強制措施」。此種「堪比六四」的言論審查，進一步加深外界對「官方結論」的質疑。
公道不會自動降臨，它需要我們共同爭取。我們不能允許這起案件被掩蓋或忽視。
我們呼籲 人權觀察 (Human Rights Watch) 與 國際特赦組織 (Amnesty International) 關注藝人生命安全、人身自由與性侵防治議題，並向相關單位施壓改善現況。
我們要求：
1.正式立案，展開全面、獨立且透明的調查；還于朦朧公道
2.若有犯罪事實，立即將涉案者以最嚴重罪名起訴；
3.相關單位必須公開道歉，並給予家屬法律與心理支持。
我們簽署人代表社會對人權與正義的要求。請所有關心公平、尊嚴與藝人安全工作權的人一同聲援，讓于朦朧獲得真正的公道。
我們登記的公民，代表社會對基本人權和司法正義的要求。請「全球關切于朦朧事件的人們，以及重視人權及藝人工作權者」正視此事，共同連署聲援，還給于朦朧公道，也還給藝人們安全且平等的工作保障。
