Hi everyone in the bobsleigh community,
We are team Belgium and we are in a situation that is beyond our control. May we have 1 minute of your time to explain what happened.
At the end of summer, we had a meeting with our coach about the competition planning. We decided on competing in WC1 Cortina and EC2 Lillehammer. We booked our flights, transportation, hotel in August, and we have proof of that.
On October 9th, Kelly Van Petegem send through the full planning to our national federation. From then on, our federation knew our planning and did the pre-registrations.
On November 7th, our coach An noticed a wrong pre-registration for WC Igls, done by our national federation. But as we already established, we were supposed to be entered for EC Lillehammer.
Immediately after noticing, our team was in contact with IBSF and they confirmed they would change it. In an e-mail on November 11th, they also accepted our request for co-operation with bobteam Blizzard.
So after WC Cortina, we travelled to Lillehammer, where we noticed that we were not on the startlist. We want to point that coming to Lillehammer was always the plan. The last 24 hours, we’ve been emailing back and forth with IBSF executive commission. Unfortunately, they decided to not let us compete because other nations could think it’s unfair.
This decision for our team means that we miss out on a race weekend whilst everybody else has an opportunity to race. We will have to change our planning drastically, which will cost us a of extra money. As a self funded team where all of the athletes pay for themselves this will have a massive impact on us.
We feel very powerless in this situation, as it has arisen entirely beyond our control. We feel like this whole situation has not been judged fairly. As fellow athletes, coaches, team captains or everyone involved in the bobsleigh community, we are asking you to stand with us and sign this petition, agreeing that we are granted entry for this race weekend.
