Faglig integritet for våtmark: Vern om Lågendeltaet naturreservat!

Den 10. februar 2023 uttalte regjeringen at den skal endre verneforskriften til Lågendeltaet naturreservat for å bygge ny firefelts motorvei for 110 km/t. Dette utgjør prinsipielt en trussel for rettsvernet av norsk natur. Finansminister Trygve Slagsvold Vedum uttalte at dette er "en god løsning for folk, miljø og dyr». Arbeiderpartiet i Lillehammer kaller det «en seier for miljøet». Med din underskrift viser du at disse utsagnene ikke har dekning i forskningsbasert kunnskap og bred faglig konsensus.
  • Dersom regjeringen endrer verneforskriften for et naturreservat som har lovens strengeste vern, viser den i praksis at Norge ikke respekterer den nye internasjonale naturavtalen. Klima- og miljøminister Espen Barth Eide var med på å fremforhandle naturavtalen, som Norge signerte 19.12.22. Avtalen skal sikre at 30 % av land- og havområder med rikt artsmangfold vernes innen 2030.
  • Lågendeltaet naturreservat er våtmark. Dette er en av de mest truede naturtypene i Norge. Naturtypen er sterkt truet internasjonalt, og forsvinner tre ganger raskere enn skogområder.
  • Nedbygging og fragmentering er hovedårsaken til tap av naturmangfold. Espen Barth Eide sier at «naturen vil komme best ut» fordi flest fugler oppholder seg i et område nær eksisterende E6. Dette er feil og i strid med konsekvensutredningene. Det viser også en svært utdatert forståelse av våtmark. Naturtypen skaper forhold for et stort og variert artsmangfold. Endrer regjeringen verneforskriften, trues økosystemet som helhet.
  • Lokalt har politikere hevdet at Lågendeltaet naturreservat er mindre verdt grunnet menneskelig påvirkning. Dette viser skremmende lav kunnskap om naturforvaltning. Lågendeltaet fikk status som naturreservat fordi det har svært høye naturverdier.
  • Det er vesentlige forskjeller i utslipp, energibruk, arealbruk, støy og kostnader mellom 110 km/t og 90 km/t. Godstrafikk har maks fartsgrense på 85 km/t. Gitt de utfordringene vi og kommende generasjoner står overfor av klimaendringer og tap av natur, er det ikke riktig at valget av firefelts motorvei for 110 km/t er "en god løsning for folk, miljø og dyr».

On the 10th of February 2023, the Norwegian government announced that it will change the country’s strictest law of environmental protection to build a new four-lane highway with speeds up to 110 km/h across the wetland nature reserve “Lågendeltaet”. The minister of finance stated that “this is a good solution for people, the environment, and animals”. By signing this petition, you show that there is no scientific consensus to this statement.
  • By allowing the new four-lane highway at 110 km/t to be built through the wetland nature reserve, the Norwegian government shows that it does not respect the United Nation’s new International Biodiversity Agreement. Norway’s own Minister of Climate and Environment participated in negotiating the biodiversity agreement, and Norway signed the agreement on Des. 19th 2022. By doing so, the Norwegian government has committed itself to protect 30% of land and water considered important for biodiversity by 2030.
  • The nature reserve “Lågendeltaet” is wetland and rich in biodiversity. This is one of the most endangered ecosystems in Norway. Globally, wetlands are recognized as the most threatened ecosystem of all, disappearing at a rate three times faster than forests.
  • Fragmentation and downsizing are the main causes of biodiversity loss. The Norwegian government states that the new four-lane highway is “best for nature” because it will take some traffic away from today’s highway, where many birds gather. To reduce wetlands to only concern a certain number of birds is an extremely outdated approach to understanding wetlands. The ecosystem creates conditions that allow for a great diversity of species. By building this highway, the government threatens this ecosystem. It is not true that the highway is “a great solution for the environment and animal life”.
  • Politicians in the region of Lågendeltaet nature reserve have stated that the wetland is of less value because it is influenced by human activity. This shows a devastatingly low degree of environmental protection. Lågendeltaet was given the legal status of nature reserve, the most severe form of legal protection, because of its high value as a biodiverse ecosystem.
  • Speeds at 110 km/h create far higher carbon emissions and noise pollution than 90 km/h (the maximum speed for transportation of goods in Norway). Given the challenges we and future generations face from climate change and loss of nature, it is not correct that the highway is “a good solution for people, the environment, and animals”.
