In an accidentally leaked letter, the President of the Austrian Medical Board Prof. Dr. Szekeres unsuccessfully tried to muzzle doctors who are speaking out for evidence-based medicine and a self-determined decision on vaccination. Apparently to quell any hint of a critical attitude in its inception, the Rector of the Medical University of Vienna Prof. Dr. Markus Müller goes even further: from the summer semester on, only students vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 will be allowed to continue their studies - unvaccinated and recovered students, on the other hand, will be excluded.  Please help to stop this type of discrimination!

In December 2021 the regulation came into effect which restricts attendance to classes requiring physical presence at the Medical University of Vienna to vaccinated and recovered students only. Sadly, this stayed unnoticed by the world outside of the university. This regulation affects those who have just started studying, but also those who were almost finished with their studies. But this was not enough: since March 2022 this rule will be tightened even further and only fully vaccinated and boostered students will be allowed to attend classes requiring physical presence. Therefore, not only unvaccinated students are prevented from continuing their studies, but also those who have recovered from COVID. Even though the government recognizes natural immunity, at least for a limited period of time, the administration of the Medical University of Vienna has decided to ignore it completely.
Due to the absence of a way to proceed with studies without attending classes requiring physical presence, all students who did not agree to participate in the trials of a drug with a conditional use authorization only, limited efficiency and a concerning safety profile are denied the right to education.
Without completion of these courses, the studies cannot be continued, which results in either an extension of the study period of uncertain duration, or even dropping out completely. Such a massive intervention into the professional education and career is not just ethically highly questionable, but also incompatible with the right to education.
Despite the high vaccination rate of around 90% among students at medical universities, there are still major restrictions on unvaccinated students that are neither proportionate nor substantially explained. Moreover, in a study published in January in the renowned journal "The Lancet Infectious Diseases", it was demonstrated that there is no significant difference between fully vaccinated and unvaccinated persons in terms of virus transmission*. It remains questionable as to why a 1G regulation (vaccinated only) should apply at the Medical University of Vienna in the future as proof of a low epidemiological risk, whereas there is a 3G (vaccinated, recovered, tested) regulation in schools and in the working environment.
While a whirlwind of media attention has followed the 2G (vaccinated and recovered only) regulation at the Economical University of Vienna, which until its suspension was supposed to be enforced from March 2022 on, this regulation has already been in force at the Medical University of Vienna for months. It continues to destroy young people's professional futures and their life plans, denying their right to education and freedom of employment.
Access to education and the opportunity to continue studying must be guaranteed to all students regardless of vaccination status!
Please help us to draw attention to this unfair treatment and its serious consequences. Help us to stop it.
