To Prime Minister Trudeau:

As global citizens we are deeply saddened by the suicide epidemic in Attawapiskat. After years of silence, proposals aren’t enough -- we demand that you urgently put into action your government’s proposals to reverse generations of mistreatment of Canada’s First Nations, and seek to do more. It shouldn’t have come to this, but it’s time to end this trauma and tragedy once and for all.

PM Trudeau: help end the suicide epidemic
30 people in a tiny First Nations community in Canada tried to end their lives in March -- one was only 9. The suicide epidemic affecting Indigenous communities across the country is Canada's great shame. It's time to do something about it.

Many of these communities face abysmal conditions: poisonous water, mould-filled homes packed with 15 people, and a long history of physical and sexual abuse in special schools designed to “kill the Indian in the child.” These schools and their legacy have haunted generations -- but we can help make it right.

Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau is doing everything he can to re-make Canada's image after 10 years of Stephen Harper. If we can spread this story to everyone we know and build the biggest call for Indigenous rights the world has ever seen, we can use the glare of international media attention to show Trudeau that his glowing reputation is at stake if his government doesn't follow through on it's plans to improve Indigenous policy.

The Chief of Attawapiskat has asked everyone to spread the word so that these communities aren’t forgotten when the spotlight fades. Let’s keep the spotlight on with a cry of our own that Trudeau can’t ignore.
