Canadian Supermarkets
We, the signers, strongly oppose the idea of supermarkets in Canada selling seal meat as this is merely an excuse for our Federal Government to continue with the senseless seal hunt in Eastern Canada. To sell seal meat would not only promote animal cruelty, but seal meat is also unhealthy for humans to consume, carrying high levels of heavy metals, including mercury.

If that is not enough to scare the public, many severe illnesses such as brucellosis, leptospirosis, ascariasis, tuberculosis, rabies and canine distemper are all found in seal meat. Other health hazards are: roundworm, tapeworm, conjunctivitis and dermatitis.

We urge you to consider not selling seal meat in your supermarket(s) for the reasons stated above. It is unfit for humans to consume and merely a ploy of the Government to keep the dying seal business alive.
