HIGHER PENALTIES NEEDED FOR EATING DOGS

In 2001, eating dogs was banned in Taiwan. The maximum penalty if caught is $300 .Yet amongst Vietnamese workers dogs are still tortured for food. Most are strays who would end up in high kill shelters. On Jan 24, 2015 Taiwan adopted 25 revisions to the 1998 National Animal Protection Act vowing to make Taiwan a no-kill nation by 2017. $5 million was allocated for improving animal shelters across Taiwan.
Last month Minister Bao-Ji Chen attended 2015 APEC Policy Dialogue on Food Security an issue of concern to all consumers. It is now time to use this budget to end this cruelty and impose higher penalties for offenders caught carrying out this vile practice.
