Liberate Medhanie Tesfamariam Behre, an Eritrean carpenter in prison in Italy

This man was arrested because the authorities and the press presented him as Medhanie Yehdego Mered said the "General", 35, one of the heads of a large organization based in Libya that manages the smuggling of migrants to Europe , involved in the travel of at least 13 thousand people.

But immediately after the presentation of Medhanie Tesfamariam Behre, the carpenter, to the press, reporters began to have doubts about his true identity. Those who saw him get off the plane, as Lorenzo Toldo, a Palermo journalist who writes for several newspapers including the English newspaper The Guardian and the New York Times, immediately realized that there was a mistake in person.

The defense presented two witnesses who had to deal with the infamous Medhanie Yehdego Mered said the «General» who are ready to testify that the man in prison for 19 months is not him. Even the DNA tests taken from the mother show that this person is actually the one who claims to be, but the Italian magistracy continues to keep him in custody. But the judiciary refuses to take these tests into consideration.

We demand that the Italian authorities release him immediately, admit their mistake publicly, and apologize to Medhanie Tesfamariam Behre for abusing an innocent person.
