Ibiza Eco Petition, Transforming Ibiza into a ZERO-CARBON ECO ZONE for wellbeing of all.
Emir S.
started this petition to
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission
Ibiza has a huge sewage problem during the high season. Not only is human excrement often seen floating near the beaches from large and small vessels sailing the Bealeric sea, also the land sanitation is in dire need of large scale renewal with high tech solutions that are far more sustainable for the local ecosystem. The Poseidonia, an unique seaweed living in the waters around Ibiza is clearly suffering due to exceedingly high acidity of the water. The human waste problem needs to be directly addressed since its a major contributor that threatens the well-being of Poseidonia and with that the entire balance of the maritime eco-system.
Then there is the issue of the electricity on the island which is now generated by one powerplant next to Eivissa town, its nine turbines are burning large amounts of fossil fuels and there is no clear road ahead on how to shift to completely sustainable electricity generation for all the clubs and hotels. The amount of heat generated by the powerplant continuously working on full capacity is influential in the micro climate and has environmental impact alongside with the water vapor carbon, nitrogen, and sulphur oxides that it releases in the air. These two plus the increased amount of cruise ships entering Ibiza waters, their diesel fueled engines are polluting tenfold over what all the cars together in ibiza pollute. The solution is simple, a financial resource that is abundant to implement new-tech sustainable solutions and compliment all stakeholders who would loose their industry or have to re-invest or relocate their businesses. This petition calls upon Ursula von der Leyen as serving President of the European Union to declare Ibiza and Bealeric Sea an Eco Heritage Zone, so funds can be allocated appriopriately. On behalf of all people who love nature and life in general to set an example to all the kids in the world and to future generations that we can co-create the solution.
With the help the local government supported by E.U. funding and all private donators who take to heart that we have the responsibility to use cleaner solutions to our sanitation and energy management.
We at IbizaEco believe that together we can preserve and keep on enjoying the fantastic beauty Ibiza and Formentera have to offer without being unaware of how our waste impact on the environment, but instead become contributors to the solution.
