Reform US gun law

In the shadow of yesterday's terrible shootings at the infants school in Connecticut, it is high time for the US federal government to bring about fundamental changes to the country's laws on gun ownership. Regardless of the predictable outcry from NRA members etc, the president and all decent, right-minded people whether democrat or republican should do whatever possible to fundamentally reform the law, and even the constitution if necessary. The aim would be to bring about a similar situation to that prevailing in the UK where gun ownership is concerned.
