People with autism should be able to live their best life. Many resources for autistic people are geared towards boys and men, and therefore girls on the autistic spectrum can struggle on a daily basis. As an autistic female, I think it is very important that people should know and understand about autism. In the UK, it is estimated that 695,000 people are on the autistic spectrum. However, it is thought that four times as many boys than girls have a diagnosis of autism. This is mostly because autism is not recognised as often in girls.
This needs to change.

I am going to take this petition to my local MP, Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed, in the hope that she will support campaigns to educate health and education professionals about autism in girls. People will learn from these professionals about the importance of understanding autism, creating a better environment for girls on the autistic spectrum.
