Protect and Preserve Historical Breeds

Netherlands new animal welfare rules applied to "short
snout" breeds require radical changes in the anatomy of some historical
breeds like Affenpinscher, Boston Terrier, English Bulldog, French Bulldog,
Griffon Belge, Griffon Bruxellois, Peti Brabancon, Japanese Spaniel, King
Charles Spaniel, Pug, Pekingese and Shih Tzu.
In order to improve the respiratory problems of the
branchycephalic breeds, they force the breeders to obtain practically new
breeds with longer snout (skull-to-muzzle ratio) CFR>0,5.
According to Cambridge University BOAS(
brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome) study the snout length is just one
of the causes and changing its size helps but does not solve the problem. The
ultimate aim of this research is to improve the health and welfare of
brachycephalic dogs by reducing the incidence of severe BOAS.
There are solutions related to mandatory tests and breeding of specimens that do not suffer from BOAS and we ask the Netherlands Government to change the existing law and impose new regulations to stop this desease but also protect and preserve those historical breeds.
