Chemical manufactures who produce slug pellets/ Defra/Govt: produce animal friendly slug pellets
10 days ago my dog Leo, 14 mths old a Spanish rescue dog ate slug pellets that were on a harvested field, He died in agony, terrified, & the Vet couldn't save him. I have seen many sites & reports of dog deaths but nothing with regard to the effect of pellets on wildlife, water ways etc perhaps this is the reason hedgehogs , birds & toads have been disappearing. I do not understand how to collate all the recorded mortalities as there appears to be no record kept but without this info the Companies/Govt depts will not stop the use of pellets. Please advise me I am desperate to do something positive in Leo's memory,
regards Sue
PS I have just discovered a site that collects & collates poisoning in wildlife & pets run by Natural England 0800 321600 pls report all incidents.
The Veterinary practice manager where Leo was treated, was not aware of the need to record poisoning or, apparently, the data collection/collation by Natural England, thats very worrying I wonder if it applies to most Vet practices. Perhaps the recording of poisoning should be made mandatory ? otherwise vital data will be lost, and the Vet pracises are the main source of data re pet poisoning.
Up date on the above - the Vet practice does log poisoning with a central body, the Manager was incorrect. Relief !!
