Maldivian government : We call on you to Save Madivaru/Finolhu.

Madivaru/Finolhu are among a very few
uninhabited islands in the whole Ari-atoll situated in Rasdoo Atoll, which is a
small natural Atoll separated from Ari Atoll which also consists of Rasdhoo,
kuramathi Island Resort and Veligandu Island Resort. Thoddo is totally secluded
further north to the Rasdhoo Atoll.

Madivaru/Finolhu is the only option for people from Rasdhoo,
Thoddoo and Ukulhas to get away from their daily life for any reason available
in 30 miles radius or so.

• We live in small
  sardine-packed islands and our children and elderly people likes to have at
  least a place to make an outing / picnic, as there are plenty in other atolls
• Our school children has to
  arrange educational field trips and outing/camping  which the resort island are so reluctant to
  accommodate the need with lamest of excuses you can imagine
• It is vital for our
  ecology. Conservation does not only need mentioning marine life and marking
  most of the reefs and fishing grounds as “protected” which again makes our
  fishing community’s life hectic. We also urge for the need of a nesting place
  for the native bird families that are on the risk of extinction which is a part
  of our identity too.
• These Islands are
  breeding-sites of different varieties of sea turtles
• The islands are so small that
  dredging and land reclamation is so obvious which will spoil the long term
  protected shark-breeding area.“Madivaru Corner” is still the most obvious site
  for spotting a Hammerhead Shark on scuba diving in the Maldives.
• And importantly it is the
  life-line of our young and growing local tourism industry. Some of our
  islanders have invested all their life into this and it all depends on this
  attraction for all their activities which they have no substituting options. So
  if it’s gone, everything is gone. It is as simple as that
