NHL: Let's stop hockey shootouts, Let's end the game with real hockey!

Sign this petition if you believe that regular season games, and effectively, playoff positions, should not be determined by the luck of the draw. Any shot taken in the shootout has, basically, a 50/50 chance of being a goal. Chance is not what hockey is about!

The NHL season has 82 games, each one as important as the next as teams vie for important positioning in the standings to determine where (if anywhere) they will stand in the playoffs. Every single point is important. Loosing all important points to the shootout --the luck of the draw-- makes a mockery of the great game of hockey, not to mention all the hard fought battles throughout the game are thus for naught. Hockey is played 5 on 5 (unless in overtime) and not one on none, like in the shootout. Too many games have seen teams battle back from a deficit just to see their momentum and hard work fall pray to a fancy puck dangler whom leaves no chance for any goaltender to make a save.

Let's take a stand against the illusory glamour of the shootout, and tell the NHL that the vast majority of hockey fans are done with the age of the shootout. Let's put hockey back the way it used to be, the way that it was always meant to be; back to a game where there is no place for chance in a shootout.
