Norwegian Government: Stop oil and gas explorations in Arctic waters

started this petition to
Norwegian Government
Norway has
a unique opportunity to vitalize the Climate Summit.
The forthcoming Climate Summit meeting could be the last
opportunity for mankind to control climate gas emissions and alleviate disastrous
consequences of global warming. Prime minister Erna Solberg (postmottak@smk.dep.no) can play an
important role and take advantage of Norway´s favorable international
reputation in environmental and climate causes. Her government has, however, lost
much credibility through its double communication. It has announced a stronger
will to reduce climate gas emissions. But at the same time new concessions to
oil and gas explorations in Arctic waters are issued, and considerable economic
support to the petroleum industry is rendered.
The IPCC has made it clear that most of the fossil fuel
must be left in the ground. If all the proven fossil energy sources are produced
and burned, the average global temperature will rise catastrophically. Not only
Norwegian inhabitants, but all inhabitants on this beautiful blue planet, are
therefore called upon to enforce pressure on the Norwegian Government by
signing this petition.
Prime Minister Erna Solberg is urged to deliver the
following proposal from the Government to the Parliament:
·
Public economic support to the oil and gas industry exceeding
support to other industries shall cease. Government guaranties and economic
support to oil exploration north of the polar circle is phased out.
·
The Norwegian pension fund, the world`s largest, to receive
directions to pull out of investments in oil and gas, in addition to what has already
been directed for coal, and invest in green alternatives.
·
All announcements of further concessions for oil and
gas exploration on the Norwegian continental shelf to be cancelled.
Norway´s prime minister is not only representing the
moral obligation of a nation with very high emission of climate gasses per
inhabitant, she also has the power in a nation with a strong economy and a well
informed population. After two years in power the Norwegian Government has not
realized the necessity, but in fact they may still decide according to what has
been proposed above, provided they have the will and the courage to do so.
