Nuno Crato, Portuguese minister for educational affairs: We call on you to save EMCN- the Lisbon Conservatory

We call on you today to support EMCN- Escola De Música Conservatório Nacional - the Lisbon Conservatory which is currently suffering with the ignorance of the Portuguese government thus preventing its 850 pupils from attending classes and hindering its teachers from working! With your support we want to force the Portuguese minister for educational affairs, Nuno Crato, to act NOW by providing adequate financial means to guarantee the appropriate functioning of EMCN !
The conditions of the school building are appalling :
More than 10 classrooms have already been sealed off by the fire brigade because of the risk of collapsing ceilings, walls are damaged, the roof itself is rotten and windows broken, water comes in in several places ruining instruments and there is a general need of maintenance in the whole building! Established in 1835 EMCN is celebrating its 180th birthday this year! It is the second oldest school in Portugal! Hundreds of excellent musicians have been taught in EMCN thus being able to build their careers and work as musicians in prestigious orchestras and as soloists all over the world! WE CALL ON YOU TODAY TO HELP US TO FORCE THE PORTUGUESE GOVERNMENT TO LIVE UP TO ITS RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACT NOW! PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION! Apelamos-vos para apoiar a EMCN - Escola de Música do Conservatório Nacional - o Conservatório de Lisboa que se encontra num estado de degradação inaceitável devido à ignorância do governo português.
Deste modo os seus cerca de 850 alunos estão praticamente impedidos de frequentar as aulas bem como os professores de exercer a sua profissão.
Com o vosso apoio queremos forçar o ministro da educação, Nuno Crato a agir de imediato, dando o necessário apoio financeiro que garanta as obras para o funcionamento apropriado da EMCN.

O edifício encontra-se num estado lamentável:
mais de dez salas foram fechadas pelas forças de segurança por risco eminente de colapso dos tectos, as paredes estão a cair bem como o telhado, as janelas partidas, a água entra por vários sítios danificando para além do próprio edifício, instrumentos musicais.
Inaugurado em 1835, celebra este ano 180 anos! É a segunda escola mais antiga de Portugal
Centenas de excelentes músicos fizeram a sua formação na EMCN, tendo construído as suas carreiras, tanto como solistas, como em prestigiadas orquestras por todo o mundo!
