Is Killing And Culling The Only Way Out? Or Is
It An Inhumane and Easy Way Out?

The Environment
Ministry of India has given erratic, random and indiscriminate sanctions to
various State Governments to cull innumerable species of wild animals declaring
them as ‘nuisance’ due to man-animal conflict. The animals and birds include our
National Bird – Peacock in Goa, Nilgai or Blue Bull and Wild Boars in Bihar, Monkeys
in Himachal Pradesh and Elephants in West Bengal. This authorization seems
totally injudicious and inconsiderate. Human Beings are not the only ones that
inhabit any Nation, the wondrous flora and innumerable species from the winged,
finned and aquatic spheres too are natural citizens of any country. These species
are the pride of the nation and deserve our respect.

Care for Life, Concern for Nature and Respect for all Life Forms, all of Creation
should be the foundation of human philosophy.

Excessive
uncontrolled human population has led to intrusion on forest terrains and animals
have to pay for the slack in the minds of man.
Who is trespassing on whose land then?
If Humans have been put on the highest
rung of the ladder of evolution, it is because they have been given the power
of discrimination so as to protect and not harm or destroy. It is the inherent
duty of each human being to fulfill their responsibility of promoting harmony. Kindred
sentiments and nonviolence is the requirement of the day while maintaining an equilibrium
in this ‘man-animal conflict’.

  • Ecosystems are
organized in a state of balance where species coexist with other species. If
something shatters the ecosystem, it can shift from a state of balance to a state
of complete imbalance. Ecological imbalance is
when a ‘natural or human-caused disturbance’ disrupts the natural balance of an
ecosystem. A ‘disturbance’ is any change that causes a disruption in the
balance of an ecosystem. If an ecosystem has a severe disturbance or is
constantly having new disturbances, it may never recover back to a state of
    ecological balance.

  • Culling
is akin to mass murder in the name of protection of environment and encroachment. It is a violation of compassion. We
initialize a move to eliminate, then, when the species are on the point of
extinction, we rush about trying to ‘conserve’.
  • This action sets an adverse example to the children of our
country - our future, a negative psychological
    impact
on the tender minds of a young generation, that it is alright to resort to violent means and elimination
when things do not go our way as opposed to incessant brainstorming and trying
to find a compatible solution beneficial to all beings in society. This will
    enhance and foster negative traits.
  • Are we as human
beings, not sufficiently equipped with humane methods and qualities to find an
ethical solution to this situation? Animals have feelings too, they feel pain and
man has been given an intellect that needs to be used with compassion as a
basis. When humankind forgets to be kind and turns insensitive and cruel, they
seal their fate and invite natural calamities and disasters. We are dealing
with lives here, let us do so with sensitivity...let us not put the human race
    to shame through merciless ways.

  • Not only animals
are being pained but the sentiments of innumerable ‘true humans’ are being pulverised
    by this brutal decision.

When
we can work around and find a peaceful solution it is mandatory we opt for it.

greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its
animals are treated.”― Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
