Russia - Free the Greenpeace Arctic Sunrise Crew NOW

Imagine you're an activist. The ancient oil rig you’re looking at is cobbled together from rusting pieces of other decommissioned rigs. It's owned by oil giant Gazprom, a company with an abysmal history of safety violations and spills. You know that if it goes into production, an oil spill will be all but inevitable.

You lock eyes with a Russian Coast Guard officer. He has a hand gun. He is there to stop your peaceful protest, and help ensure a private company's operation goes ahead.

Right now, the crew of the Greenpeace ship the Arctic Sunrise are being held in custody in Mermansk after acused of piracy after being illegally boarded in international waters by Russian security services.

The Arctic Sunrise had been part of a peaceful protest against energy giant Gazprom which is poised to drill for the first oil to come out of the icy waters of the Arctic.
