Save Grosvenor Mount

University of Leeds
6 Grosvenor Mount is a decommissioned botanical research centre owned by the University of Leeds. The site is comprised of greenhouses, poly-tunnels and outbuildings. The University have recently gained planning permission to demolish the existing structures and turn the site into residential accommodation. The property is currently on the market and the University are accepting offers over £500,000. Leeds University's total income for 2012 was £538m; £500,000 is less than one thousandth of this figure. Such a sum would hardly figure in their accounts. Our Student Union has just been granted £300,000 by the NUS as part of their Students' Green Fund. The money is earmarked for creating a fund to which students can apply if they have innovative ideas to engage their peers in sustainable activity and expanding edible growing on campus. To grow edible plants and encourage student engagement with food security and low carbon projects. It seems counter-productive to sell a piece of land for which this fund would be perfectly suited. Please sign this petition to show your support for keeping Grosvenor Mount part of Leeds University and turning it in to a vibrant and productive growing space open to all.
