Free the Egyptian detainees-journalists, bloggers, academics, students!
Right now many people are being locked up in Egypt for gathering together for the purposes of freedom of speech. Many ''Young Mandelas' who participated in securing democracy in 2011 have been 'put away' under the current military regime.
There are young Egyptians Ahmed Douma, Ahmed Maher (a Nobel peace prize nominee), Alaa abdel Fattah and Mohammed Adel who helped lead the peoples uprising in 2011. There are journalists such as Peter Greste- an amazing Australian Photojournalist who has done so much for conservation. Many reports of abusive treatment have reached us.
There are many students who could be your son or daughter being locked up and suffering mistreatment and torture. Even children are being locked up -in adult prisons where the abuses are occurring.
While claiming to want to form a democracy, General Sisi and his military police have bought in a law banning all protest of any kind enabling them to lock up anyone they felt was a threat.
This is our key to apply pressure. The first step to resumption of a democracy in Egypt would be revoking a law that does not allow people to protest peacefully.
Lets call on President Mansour to revoke the anti protest law. Without this law thousands of innocent people will have a chance to be released. While this law exists, claims that the interim Egyptian Government is building a democracy cannot be true.
Now is the time to act. Please sign this petition urging the Egyptian Administration the world wants to see them remove this undemocratic law as a first step to resumption of a true democracy.
