Send Draft Access to Information Law to the Afghan Parliament for Approval
Access to Information is a fundamental right of every Afghan citizen guaranteed by Article 50 of the Afghan Constitution. The draft of Access to Information Law started in 2010 by Afghan civil society. The Council of Ministers was supposed to send the draft of the law to the parliament to pass. However, it has not been sent yet leading to lack of access of public to important information that affects their lives.
Lack of access to information is one of the major obstacles towards realizing good governance, fighting corruption, transparency and accountability. Access to information increases citizens’ engagement in establishing good governance and fighting corruption and promotes their participation in public matters.
