Unique Paradise Under Threat! - Turtle Beach, Dalyan, Turkey.

The area of Iztuzu Beach, Dalyan is world renowned for its natural beauty and is the second largest nesting ground for sea turtles (Caretta Caretta) in the Mediterranean.

In 1988 the whole area was declared the first Specially Protected Area in Turkey.

Currently, there is a development proposal to build a pre-fabricated, metal structure in the shape of a giant turtle (20X19X7m High). The land that has been allocated for this project is protected as part of the SPA and International Marine and Coastal Law.

Any permanent structure of this nature in the area is illegal.

The present rehabilitation centre is built as a temporary structure and offers a sanctuary to injured turtles. Over half of the injures are caused by human activity (E.G unguarded propellers, ingestion of fish hooks, entanglement in fishing lines to name a few).

The Kaptan June Sea Turtle Conservation Foundation aims to reduce the number of injured turtles by educating tourists and locals and providing all local boatmen the opportunity to receive a free propeller guard for their boat.

Our Foundation believes that preventative measures are key to reducing the number of injured turtles. We firmly believe that the creation of a larger rehabilitation centre is more destructive than constructive.

Dalyan İztuzu Kumsalı ve çevresi , doğal güzelliği ve Akdeniz Bölgesinde Caretta Caretta türü deniz kaplumbağalarının 2. büyük yumurtlama alanı olması ile dünyaca ünlüdür.

1988 yılında tüm bölge, Türkiye’de kabul ve ilan edilen ilk ‘ Özel Çevre Koruma Alanı ‘ dır.

Şu anda, 20 X 19 m boyutları ve 7 m yüksekliğinde, deniz kaplumbağası biçimi ve renginde, metal iskelet üzerine kurulacak pre-fabrik bir yapının inşası planlanmaktadır. Bu proje için ayrılan alan, Özel Çevre Koruma ve Uluslararası Kıyı Koruma Yasaları ile koruma altındadır.

Bu doğal alanda yapılması planlanan herhangi bir kalıcı yapı yasal değildir.

Şu anda hizmet veren Rehabilitasyon Merkezi kalıcı bir yapı değildir ve yaralı deniz kaplumbağalarına sağlık hizmeti vermektedir.

Yaralanmaların yarıdan fazlası insan faaliyetlerinden kaynaklanmaktadır ( Tekne pervanesi kesikleri, olta iğnelerinin yutulması, olta misinalarına dolanma şeklinde yaralanmalar en önemlilerinden birkaçı olarak sayılabilir).

Kaptan June Deniz Kaplumbağaları Koruma Vakfı, bölge halkı, yerli ve yabancı ziyaretçileri bilgilendirip farkındalık yaratmayı ve bölgedeki tekne sahiplerinin Vakfımızın sağladığı ücretsiz tekne pervanesi kafeslerini kullanmalarını sağlamayı ve böylece kaplumbağa yaralanmalarını azaltmayı amaçlamaktadır.

Vakfımız, yaralı kaplumbağa sayısını azaltmanın koruyucu önlemlerin anahtarı olduğunu düşünmekte ve daha büyük rehabilitasyon merkezlerinin yapıcı olmaktan uzaklaştığına inanmaktadır.

Het Strand van de schildpad, Dalyan, Turkije.

Het gebied van Iztuzu Strand, Dalyan is wereld beroemd om zijn natuurlijke schoonheid en is de tweede grootste nestplaats voor overzeese schildpadden (Caretta Caretta) in het Middellandse Zeegebied.

In 1988 werd het gehele gebied uitgeroepen tot het eerste speciaal Beschermde Gebied in Turkije.

Momenteel, is er een ontwikkelingsvoorstel om een geprefabriceerde, metaalstructuur in de vorm van een reuzenschildpad (Hoge 20 X 19 X 7m) te bouwen.

Het land dat voor dit project is toegewezen is beschermd als deel van SPA en Internationale Mariene en de Kust Wetten.

Om het even welke permanente structuur van deze aard in het gebied is onwettig.

Het huidige revalidatiecentrum werd gebouwd als tijdelijke structuur en biedt een revalidatieplaats aan gewonde schildpadden.

Meer dan de helft van verwondingen worden veroorzaakt door menselijke activiteit (B.V. onbewaakte scheepsschroeven, opname van vishaken, verwarring in vislijnen om er maar enkelen te noemen).

De Captain June Stichting tot Behoud van de Schildpad poogt het aantal verwonde schildpadden te verminderen door toeristen en de locale bevolking voor te lichten en de lokale schippers een gratis schroefbeschermer voor hun boot aan te bieden.

De Stichting gelooft dat preventieve maatregelen zeer belangrijk zijn voor het verminderen van het aantal verwonde schildpadden.

Wij zijn er stellig van overtuigd dat de verwezenlijking van een groter revalidatiecentrum vernietigender is dan constructief.
