HYDROPOWER DEVELOPMENT PLANS THREATEN THE RIVER DRAVA
ENOUGH! Save the Drava River from new hydropower plants!
One of the last free-flowing European rivers is at risk! Koprivnica-Križevci County (Croatia) are making amendments to the county’s Spatial Plan foreseeing the construction of two new hydropower plants in the heart of the Amazon of Europe (HPP Molve 1 and 2).
If the hydropower plants are included in the Spatial Plan, the legal preconditions for their construction will be fulfilled. Their construction would irretrievably destroy the exceptional biodiversity of the area, increase the risk of floods, and have negative impact on more than 300,000 people living near the river in Hungary and Croatia.
By signing this petition you will raise your voice for the protection of the Drava River, preserving one of the last natural European rivers.
We call on the Koprivnica‐Križevci County Prefect Mr. Darko Koren to stop the inclusion of the Molve 1 and 2 hydropower plants into the Spatial Plan of Koprivnica‐Križevci County and to stop supporting the construction of new hydropower plants on the Drava River!

MORE ABOUT THE DRAVA RIVER AND NEGATIVE IMPACT OF PLANNED HYDROPOWER PLANTS
Due to its natural value, the Drava River in Croatia is included in the European Union's Natura 2000 Network, the Mura‐Drava Regional Park and the UNESCO Transboundary Biosphere Reserve Mura‐Drava‐Danube.
Gravel islands and steep banks of the Drava River are most endangered river habitats, home to numerous endangered bird species such as the little tern or sand martin, whose numbers are drastically declining. For instance, only four pairs of little terns still nest on the Drava River!
Drava River supports more than 70 fish species, exceeding any other river in Croatia. The impact of hydropower plants on the fish stock would be extreme, since they prevent the migration of fish and disappearance of key habitats.
Consequences of their construction would be as severe downstream as upstream. Decrease of groundwater levels would reduce the amount of drinking water for more than 300,000 people. It would also cause a reduction in natural retention capabilities that protect us from major floods and would cause change in the microclimate of the area.
Molve 1 and 2 hydropower plants would irretrievably destroy the Drava River ecosystems, which would directly have a negative impact on the local population and the cultural heritage of this region. In Europe, no major hydropower plant was built within the ecological network of Natura 2000. Let’s not allow Croatia to be the first. Say ENOUGH!
It is important that we preserve our most valuable natural habitats to future generations, giving them the opportunity to grow up with the intact Drava River, as we did!

PLANOVI IZGRADNJE HIDROELEKTRANA UGROŽAVAJU RIJEKU DRAVU
DOSTA JE! Zaustavimo izgradnju novih hidroelektrana na Dravi!
Ugrožena je jedna od posljednjih prirodnih europskih rijeka! Koprivničko-križevačka županija priprema Izmjene i dopune prostornog plana županije koji predviđa izgradnju dvije nove hidroelektrane u srcu Europske Amazone (HE Molve 1 i 2).
Uključivanjem ovih hidroelektrana u prostorni plan biti će zadovoljeni pravni preduvjeti za njihovu izgradnju. Njihovom izgradnjom nepovratno bi se uništila iznimna bioraznolikost područja uz Dravu, povećao bi se rizik od poplava, te bi imao negativan utjecaj na više od 300.000 ljudi koji žive uz rijeku Dravu u Hrvatskoj i Mađarskoj.
Potpisivanjem ove peticije dajete svoj glas za zaštitu rijeke Drave i doprinosite očuvanju jedne od posljednjih prirodnih europskih rijeka.
Pozivamo župana Koprivničko‐križevačke županije g. Darka Korena da zaustavi dodavanje hidroelektrana Molve 1 i 2 u prostorni plan Koprivničko‐križevačke županije te odustane od podrške izgradnji hidroelektrana na rijeci Dravi!
VIŠE O RIJECI DRAVI I NEGATIVNOM UTJECAJU PLANIRANIH HIDROELEKTRANA
Zbog svoje iznimne prirodne vrijednosti, rijeka Drava u Hrvatskoj dio je ekološke mreže Europske unije Natura 2000, Regionalnog parka Mura-Drava te UNESCO-ovog Prekograničnog rezervata biosfere „Mura-Drava-Dunav“.
Na rijeci Dravi nalaze se neka od najugroženijih riječnih staništa, šljunčani sprudovi i strme riječne obale, dom mnogim ugroženim vrstama ptica, poput male čigre i bregunice, čiji je broj u opadanju. Primjerice, danas na rijeci Dravi žive samo četiri para male čigre!
U rijeci Dravi zabilježeno je 70 vrsta riba, više nego u bilo kojoj drugoj rijeci u Hrvatskoj. Utjecaj hidroelektrana na riblji fond bio bi iznimno velik jer bi se ribama onemogućila migracija, a nestala bi i njihova ključna staništa – mrjestilišta.
Posljedice izgradnje ovih hidroelektrana bile bi jednako negativne i uzvodno i nizvodno. Zbog snižavanja razine podzemnih voda smanjila bi se količina pitke vode za više od 300.000 ljudi. Isto tako, smanjila bi se prirodna retencija koja nas brani od velikih poplave te bi došlo do promjene mikroklime tog područja.
Izgradnjom hidroelektrana Molve 1 i 2 nepovratno bi se uništio ekosustav rijeke Drave što bi izravno negativno utjecalo na lokalno stanovništvo i kulturnu baštinu ovoga kraja. U cijeloj Europi se unutar ekološke mreže Natura 2000 nije izgradila niti jedna velika hidroelektrana. Ne dopustimo da hrvatska bude prva. Recimo zajedno DOSTA JE!
Od iznimne je važnosti da sačuvamo naša najvrjednija prirodna staništa za buduće generacije kako bi im omogućili da odrastaju uz rijeku Dravu uz kakvu smo i mi odrastali!
