TUESDAY 8:30 AM: Troll Army of Fake Mark Zuckerbergs March on the Capitol Lawn Ahead of Senate Hearing

WHAT: Ahead of Mark Zuckerberg's Senate hearing on Tuesday, advocacy group, Avaaz, takes an army of 100 life-sized Zuckerberg cutouts wearing 'Fix Facebook' t-shirts to the Capitol lawn. The event intends to call attention to the hundreds of millions of fake accounts still spreading disinformation on Facebook. The group is calling on the CEO to ban all bots, alert the public any and every time users see fake or disinformation, fund fact checkers around the world, and submit to an independent audit to review the scale and scope of fake news.

WHERE: South East Lawn of the Capitol (across the street from Library of Congress), Washington DC

WHEN: 8:30am

WHO: Avaaz will present its Four Solutions to Fix Fakebook, following consultations with regulators, experts and social media executives. An Avaaz spokesperson will be available for interviews.

The protest is part of Avaaz’s campaign calling on Mark Zuckerberg, Internet CEOs and government regulators to fight disinformation campaigns threatening our democracies. Over  750,000 people from all over the world have signed an open letter over the last week, which will appear in ads in Politico and  Washington Post this Tuesday and Wednesday in reply to Mark Zuckerbergs apology.

Zuckerberg is set to appear before a joint hearing of the Senate Judiciary and Commerce committees on Tuesday, followed by a House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing Wednesday.
