24 HOURS TO RESCUE JAN-LOKPAL!

UPDATE: The Cabinet has just endorsed a weak draft Lokpal Bill. Let's keep sending a avalanche of faxes to show Ministers the massive public rejection of their decision and our determination to keep fighting for a bill that can tackle India's corruption.

In 24 hours the cabinet could submit a toothless Lokpal bill to Parliament that risks ruining our once-in-a-generation chance to tackle corruption. But we can still rescue the bill.

Cabinet Ministers are refusing to include any of the civil society demands that would make the Lokpal a powerful anti-corruption instrument. But there is one leader who could persuade them to change their position: Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

We have just 24 hours to urge her and the entire Cabinet to heed the growing outcry for a strong anti-corruption bill. They all pay close attention to faxes and phone calls they receive -- use our easy and free fax tool and help flood Sonia Gandhi and key Cabinet Members with messages to save the Jan Lokpal.

  • But the government is ignoring the people’s demand for effective anti-corruption legislation, and its current version of the Lokpal is too weak.
  • We need a strong, comprehensive Lokpal bill with enough powers to hold the PM, the Judiciary, MPs and bureaucrats accountable.
  • It is also crucial that the bill brings under its ambit the Central Bureau of Investigation.
  • For Sonia: Your personal intervention in April helped stop Anna Hazare's fast and get civil society onto the Bill's drafting Committee. Please use your influence again to save this unique opportunity to rescue the Jan Lokpal and tackle corruption at all levels.
