We, citizens from across the world, welcome and stand with Aung San Suu Kyi and all the people of Burma as they struggle for democracy with courage and determination. We call on the government to uphold Suu Kyi's freedom without conditions, free all the other 2,200 political prisoners, and immediately enter into a political dialogue with Aung San Suu Kyi and other democratic and ethnic leaders.

Nobel laureate and democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi was just released after 15 years of illegal detention by the brutal Burmese regime.

She is Burma's hero and her freedom could be a turning point toward democracy. But the dictators have no intention of relinquishing power and could quickly return to violence if her emergence threatens their command.
