Steps for reaching out:

  1. Get to know the person you’re reaching out to by reading the introduction and talking points on the right.

  2. Pick up the phone, or hit the e-mail button, and reach out!

  3. Introduce yourself first: What’s your name, where do you live, why are you reaching out?

  4. Make your point: Why do you hope Nick Champion will support the adoption of a Global Magnitsky Act in Australia?

  5. Offer hope, inspiration, and encouragement -- angry demands usually don’t work.

Nick Champion

Member of Parliament for Spence, SA, Labor Party
Member of the Human Rights Sub-Committee
Nick Champion Spence SA

Mr Champion has been in Parliament since 2007 and represents a working class area in the outer suburbs of Adelaide. He usually votes strongly in favour of environment policies as well as policies that protect Australian industry and restrict foreign ownership and interference.

In 2019, he led the charge to "nationalise" the Darwin Port, concerned that "there was not enough consideration of the national interest in the privatisation of this port."

Mr Champion is a member of the Human Rights Sub-Committee, leading the inquiry into whether Australia should adopt its own version of a Global Magnitsky Act. If this Committee recommends to Parliament that it should adopt such a law, the chances of it succeeding become much stronger!

He is married, has one young daughter and is known as a down-to-earth politician.

Connecting with Mr Champion on this issue:

  • The Global Magnitsky Act is a valuable tool in combating human rights abuses and gross corruption across the globe.

  • Australia cannot allow human rights abusers and money launderers to abuse Australia as a safe haven; not as a tourist destination, nor to hide their dirty money.

  • Adopting the Global Magnitsky Act helps Australia to uphold its commitment to the rule of law and protect all Australians.
