Bangladesh: Champion girls, not brides!
To Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina:
As citizens from Bangladesh and all corners of the world supportive of your efforts to empower women and keep girls safe, we appeal to you not to add a clause on ‘special circumstances’ to the draft Child Marriage Restraint Act that could hinder 18 as the minimum age of marriage, or in any way legitimise the rape of young girls. Make Bangladesh a global leader for girls’ rights.

Under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has made strides in passing progressive laws for women and girls. But a new law aimed at ending child marriage could include a ‘special circumstances’ clause where young girls may be forced to marry their rapists.
The Prime Minister doesn’t want the world interfering with Bangladeshi decisions, but if we build a massive call to back local organisations fighting this on the front line and appeal to her track record of work on women’s rights, we can help stop the child rape loophole. Add your name.
