We call on you to responsibly regulate social media companies. You have a unique opportunity to hold Big Tech accountable for their role in amplifying toxic content that harms not just your own citizens, but people, democracies, and public health worldwide. President Biden, we urge you to push this issue to the forefront in Congress, and appoint a senior White House official with the experience and mandate to tackle tech accountability. Lawmakers in the US have introduced almost a dozen different bills designed to do just that -- force Facebook and other platforms to come clean about how harmful their products can be. But right now those bills are stalled, mired in a morass of competing political priorities.
