Tips for writing

  • Take a second to think about who you are writing to and why - try to put yourself in their shoes.

  • You may want to Google a couple of articles about them.

  • Set your state - what do you want to say, why does this matter to you?

  • Let it flow - write it first, edit it later!

  • Write for connection - maybe mention your relationship with nature or what moves you. But write to connect with the person you’re addressing.

  • Facts and figures matter less - than writing from the heart.

  • Don’t be shrill and demand things - offer insights, arguments, and inspiration.

  • Make your point - scientists say we have to protect half of the earth to save ourselves.

How German Chancellor Merkel can help save life on Earth

Thanks for your support!! Over two million of us have now joined the call to protect half the earth.

Germany has been an environmental leader in many areas, and for the last decade that has been thanks to Angela Merkel. She’s known as the “climate chancellor”, and was essential to the Paris deal and to pushing the G7 to cut carbon to zero.

She’s also a scientist, so she knows the peril our planet is in. And she’s surely looking for scientifically-sound solutions to the problem. That’s exactly what we’re pushing for with the plan to protect half the earth.

Germany is critical to making this happen. They are the biggest funder of international environmental projects, they are hosting the European meeting which will decide how the EU engages with this, and they have a close relationship with China, who will host the global nature summit.

Merkel is preparing to leave office after this term, so she has a chance to make a global deal for nature part of her legacy. Let’s inspire her to lead -- send a message, and Avaaz will collect all the amazing letters we receive, print them in one giant book, and deliver them in person!
