Canada is home to some of the last great wilderness areas on the planet, and it’s a country with a long and rich history of working with others, something their Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau has vowed to continue.

This is our chance to show him he can truly be a world leader by backing a deal for nature to protect half the planet. Write a letter to PM Trudeau to inspire him to lead -- Avaaz will collect all the amazing letters, print them in a beautiful book, and deliver them to him and his team.

Before you write - getting to know Justin Trudeau:

1. Prime Minister Trudeau sees himself as a global statesman. As America retreats from the UN, Canada has pledged to lean in. He has welcomed refugees to Canada, and committed to supporting the Paris climate agreement.
2. Last Earth Day he announced new protections for Canada’s oceans and forests. He said: “On behalf of the Government of Canada, I encourage all Canadians to take time today to do their part for the environment. Together, and only together, can we protect the clean air and water we share, and pass a planet on to our kids and grandkids that is better than how we found it.”
3. It’s an election year in Canada, and most Canadians want strong leadership on climate and the environment -- according to a poll Avaaz ran, 61% of Canadians think it’s possible to protect half the planet.  
4. Before getting into politics, Trudeau taught high school French, drama and math.
5. He is surprising! The day after the election, Trudeau thanked voters in an unexpected place -- he spent the morning in a Montreal Subway station saying thank you to commuters. And when Canada welcomed its first group of Syrian Refugees, Trudeau went to the Toronto airport to personally greet them and help hand out winter coats.
6. He’s not afraid to get personal. He has spoken frankly about his mother’s mental illness (she has bipolar disorder) and his wife’s battle with eating disorders.
7. Trudeau is a self-proclaimed feminist. He believes in gender equality, and even appointed a 50% female cabinet.
8. Trudeau loves Star Wars and he called The Force Awakens a “life-changing movie.” Star Wars is all about balance in the universe, much like protecting half the Earth is about balance on our planet!
