Better homes for better futures
To EU policy-makers:
As concerned citizens from across the European Union, we call on you to create inclusive and ambitious building policies that will support the acceleration of deep and holistic energy renovation of Europe’s buildings. 75% of our buildings are inefficient, meaning that households across Europe are carrying the full brunt of the fossil fuel crisis. By providing more and tailored financial and technical support, including strong social safeguards measures, to improve the energy performance of our buildings, millions of people can be lifted out of energy poverty while protecting our climate.

And with it, rising energy costs, a cost of living crisis, and the consequences of the climate emergency. Millions of European families must choose between eating or heating.
But the solution may be easier than we think. Researchers have found that buildings are responsible for up to 40% of the EU’s total energy consumption and the majority of buildings across Europe are ‘leaking’.
Making our homes and buildings energy efficient will save us energy and money, reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, reduce the impact on climate and improve our quality of life.
But to achieve this, we need a strong EU policy framework, investments and resources that can make the transition to renewable-based buildings a reality. Join our call to decision-makers for an equitable energy transition of our buildings that puts people at the core.
