Sign the global business owners letter for fair tax rules.

To G8 leaders:

As citizens concerned about companies and criminals stashing wealth out of reach, we call on you to agree and implement tough, binding measures to combat tax evasion. These should include ways to identify and exchange information on all forms of wealth and a public registry of who owns and controls companies. This is a vital part of meeting our social and environmental challenges.

Powerful multinationals and their lobbyists are pressing world leaders against cracking down on tax havens, arguing that doing so is anti-business. But we know that ensuring a level playing field is actually pro-business. So let's deliver the letter below to our leaders from business owners and representatives making that clear. Sign on to it in the box to the right.

To leaders of the G8:

As business owners and representatives we urge you to support a robust agreement to fight tax evasion.

The current lack of transparency and coordination in the international financial system allow too many to hide their money, and shift costs onto responsible business owners and families. When this happens, it creates an unfair playing field for enterprises, often solely domestic ones, which lack the scale and resources to use such measures.

The current system enables the most unscrupulous corporations and wealthy individuals to deprive our governments of billions of dollars of revenue that should be invested in quality education, research, infrastructure and health care. We know you recognise that these are foundations for stability, innovation and growth and we call on you to promote these priorities by tackling tax evasion head-on.

We pay our fair share of taxes and we call on you to ensure everyone pays their fair share. We call for unanimous G8 support for key measures including automatic information sharing among all countries, a public registry showing beneficial ownership for all companies, trusts and foundations, and getting multinationals to publish a country by country breakdown of their accounts.

Sincerely, [XX]
