When Trudeau resigned facing a country fed up with inflation, scandals, and political infighting, everyone expected his populist right-wing opponent to win a sweeping victory next.

But Trudeau’s successor Mark Carney just made a historic comeback for his party and won on a simple platform: forcefully challenging Donald Trump, his trade war, and his threats to Canada’s national sovereignty.
