We condemn the gagging and jailing of peaceful climate protesters in UK courts. We call on you to stop silencing and jailing truth tellers. Repeal the Tories’ repressive legislation immediately, hold to account the corporate polluters who threaten life on earth for profit, and restore the UK’s influential role in upholding democratic rights and international law.

This sentence is a punch in the gut for all of us. Peaceful protesters will spend the next four to five years in an overcrowded prison.

And for what? Leading a video call about a motorway-protest against government plans to ‘max out’ on oil and gas.

This is a tragic result of legislation introduced by the Tories that treats peaceful protesters as violent offenders – enabling courts to sentence them to up to 10 years in jail!

Protest is how everyday people like you and me can come together to challenge big powers. Without it -- we lose a cornerstone of our free democratic society.
